Explain directing of subject (asking them to wait while you get in position, etc.) and difference between “On vacation” shooting of a scene (press record, stand still and watch) and shooting a sequence-- changing locations, actively seeking different angles.
5 Shot Sequence: WOCHU!
W: Wide
O: Over the Shoulder
C: Close Up
H: Hands
U: Unusual (Creative Shot)
Note: this is the BARE MINIMUM of B Roll that you should get for each interview-- you should strive to get LOTS of good B-Roll. The more, the better.
In general, all shots should be on tripod-- but there are exceptions.
Watch Carrot Mob Story
SHOW: Sequence example. Can use footage of Jake shooting sequence of crepe vendor.
Watch Zach King on Camera Angles:
Activity: Shoot a B-Roll Sequence
Assignment: Jake's one man play
Remember: Use the tripod for each shot, and WOCHU!
HANDS ON: Shooting a B-Roll Sequence
Divide students into pairs. Each student will identify some hobby of theirs that they enjoy and would like to be filmed doing. (skateboarding, writing, texting, etc.) They then take turns shooting B-Roll Sequences of each other performing these activities. Remember WOCHU!
